Michael Trumble's collection "From Behind Blue Eyes" gives the reader a view into the mind of a twenty-something New England man interpreting the world through his unique perspective. Unlike bourgeois poetry attempting to pass as authentically rural, Trumble's work is an authentic portrayal of the thoughts and emotions experienced by the everyman who, in reality, is much more. Tackling everything from alcoholism, to religion, to politics, to Maine weather, Trumble articulates his rich perspective on life through common vernacular without slipping into the habit of uncouthly abusing "dialect." Trumble's work is fortified with emotion and devoid of tack. "From Behind Blue Eyes" is a must read for New Englanders and other Anglophones interested in reading real proletarian poetry.
